Please do not crate Fern
Fern came from Shanghai meat trade where she was used as a breeding dog for two years. Fern deserves a big yard where she can be a regular dog.
She has had previous training and knows sit, shake and stay. However, she could benefit from someone who knows her specific breed and will take time to train her as only Pyr's can be trained, in a positive manner. She is very,
very, sweet. She has spurts of energy where she will run like a horse and can jump over certain fences but loves her sleep. She gets along with kids (has been around elementary school students), dogs (as long as they don't try to eat her food while she is!) and cats (she ignores them).
Since she was previously abused and mistreated by her breeder in China, she gets nervous in crates. She also will cower down
and close her eyes if someone moves towards her too quickly. She never responds with biting or anything aggressive. She just responds
nervous by instinct. She will also pee in small quantities when she is really nervous in a new environment. We had the vet check her for a
UTI but she said that its just nerves from her past. Everyone who meets her, loves her. She is the type of dog where you can take her to any environment with a large amount of people or a small amount and she will just love it. She loves having multiple people petting her at the same time and will brush up against your leg when she wants love or better know as a Pyr hug. As for being a guard dog, she barks when anyone is on our property but once we tell her it is okay, she stops and is her loving self towards whoever is visiting. Most recently Fern has lived in a two-story, four bedroom house with a large porch and backyard. She sleeps by the front door for most of the day.
She would do well in a home with other animals and someone who is not
gone all day. She gets nervous when she is left alone for too long and she needs someone who will have her active outside. Fern is a delicate soul that deserves a family that will treat her well, give her exercise, must have a fenced yard, understand Great Pyrenees and how sensitive they are.
